Getting Guidance

You like it when you know where you are going.  Be it on a vacation trip, a business trip, errands around town, or your spiritual journey, knowing where you are going gives you a sense of tranquility.  You like to know the end destination.  It is those times, where you do not know where you are going, that you are uneasy and frustrated.

Too often, as you live your Christian life, God does not reveal the end destination.  He tells you to step out on faith and put one foot ahead of another.  God gives enough insight to show you that step ahead, but not much more.  That Reformer of your faith, Martin Luther, said it this way: “I know not the way He leads me, but well do I know my Guide.”  The all-important principle, that Martin Luther is teaching, is that you just need to put your trust in Christ to lead you.  This, so often, is done in small steps.  Christ seldom reveals His whole plan for your life at once.

The Israelites just witnessed them going through the Red Sea on dry land, and the Egyptians being drowned in that sea.  They are rejoicing.  Moses leads them in a song.  In that song, they thank God for delivering them from the Egyptian army.  “You in Your mercy have led forth the people You have redeemed; You have guided them in Your strength to Your holy habitation” (Exodus 15:13; NKJV).  The Israelites acknowledged that God had led them.  They followed the leading of God.  They were guided by God’s strength.  All they knew was that they were to move forward.  They did not know the next step.  They were just obedient to move on God’s command.  They knew God was their Guide.

Pray to the Lord Christ for guidance in your life.  He gives guidance to His children.  If you do not know Christ personally, invite Him into your life right now!
