Looking Beyond

Too many people put too much emphasis on outward appearances.  Their focus is on looking their best.  The clothes they wear, and how they are perceived by others is all that is important to them.  They do nothing to become a better person.  Everything is about how they are perceived by other people.

Do not follow their example.  An unknown author says it well, when he stated: “It is better to be more than you seem, than you seem more than you are.”  How insightful.  Too many people just want to look good.  They have no interest in being a better person.  As long as others think highly of them, even though they do not deserve it, that is all that matters to them.

The Scriptures warn you about such thinking.  It points you to those unseen characteristics.  The things that you cannot see are the things that are important.  “While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.  For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal’ (2 Corinthians 4:18; NKJV).  Your character is what is important.  That character is based on your relationship with Christ.  He knows what you do, and why you do it.  Those things are not seen by others.

Look beyond being in a favorable light to the people you meet on a daily basis.  Not that it is unimportant, but that there is something of more importance.  Make it a priority to be a person of character.  A Godly man or woman.

Look good to others, but place the majority of your emphasis on the internal characteristic of being a Godly person.  Start doing that today!
