Alone with God

Sometimes you are in the middle of all that life throws at you, and you feel all alone.  There is no back door to go through.  There is no quick escape route.  The fact of the matter is, you are all alone.

How do you handle that?  Do you seek out friends, who can help relieve your pain?  Do you occupy yourself in some activity to forget your troubles?  Do you dive into some hobby?  Do you try to find something, anything, that will numb the pain of your emptiness?

Niccolo Paganini began to play his violin and one string popped.  The people giggled a bit, and then he began to play again and the second string broke.  The same thing happened and the third string broke.  Then all was silent as Paganini raised his hand and spoke.  He spoke and said, “Just one string and Paganini.”  And on that one string he played some of the most beautiful music ever heard.  Yes, just you and God!  When there is no place to turn, you must realize that God is present to help you in your hour of need.

The Psalmist echoes those exact words: “God is our refuge and strength.  A very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1, NKJV).  This verse reminds you that there are times in your life when you need to take refuge in the Lord God.  At those times, the Lord gives you His supernatural strength that only He can provide.  During those dark hours that turn into days, God is “a very present help” at that time.

When your world crashes in, refrain from filling your time with activities that deaden the ache in your heart.  Those activities will soothe the pain, but will not last.  You do not know if God is either allowing those painful events or even causing them to bring you into a closer relationship with Him.  Take time to be alone with God!
