You’re Not An Island

You want to live your Christian life in such a way that it does not matter what others think.  After all, Galatians talks about the freedom you have in Christ.  In that freedom, you want to live your Christian life.  You go on to say that you are not responsible for what others think about you.  You strive to live the life of a believer in Christ, but you cannot please other people, or Christians.

Know for certain that people around you look and observe your behavior.  Both believers and unbelievers observe your talk and your walk.  They know that you are a Christian and have a certain standard they measure you up against.  Peter Holmes has some wise words for Christians, when he said, “My life helps to paint my neighbor’s picture of God.”  Like it or not, the life you live is under the scrutiny of those around you.

Scripture tells you to live your life in such a way that others will see Jesus in you.  One verse, to help in living that lifestyle, is seen in 1 Corinthians 5:20, “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ.”  As an ambassador, you live in one country, but you are a citizen of another country.  This verse challenges you to live as if you a citizen of heaven, while being a resident of earth.  Look heavenward.

You are not an island that stands all by itself.  You cannot live your life without impacting other people’s lives.  What you say and do is heard and seen by others.  They make decisions about your walk with the Lord based on these.  The way you live your life tells them, also, what it means to be a Christian.

Not being an island, put forth your best behavior for those around you.  Live your life in light of you being a citizen of heaven.  With that, you paint a Godly picture!
