Praying Like Jesus Prays

Form the moment you became a Christian, you have prayed to Christ.  Prayer is the lifeline of your spiritual walk with Him.  It does not matter if it is a time of joy, grief, a blessing, or a trial, you go to Jesus in prayer.

That great missionary to China, J. Hudson Taylor, says this about his prayer life: “I used to ask God to help me.  Then I asked if I might help Him.  I ended up asking Him to do His work through me.”  Much of what your prayer life consists of probably focuses on that first point – asking Jesus for His help.  You have needs where Jesus is the only One capable of helping.

Jesus is the Son of God.  He is totally God and totally man, yet without sin.  Jesus had all the power of God at His disposal.  He mentions that He is capable of calling legions of angels to His disposal.  He performed miraculous miracles time and time again.  You would think that He could do whatever He wished to do.  That is not true.  As Jesus nears His death, He tells what His utmost desire is on this earth: “then He said, ‘Behold, I have come to do Your will’” (Hebrews 10:9).  Jesus came to earth with one agenda, and one agenda only, – to do the will of God the Father.

To pray like Jesus prays, means you are to yield yourself to God the Father to do whatever He wants you to do.  Not to do what you want, but to yield your will to the will of God.  That is what Jesus was talking about when He said that you are to be a seed.  That seed is only useful to produce as it dies.  As a seed dies, then it can bear fruit.  So, you must die to do what you want to do, and yield yourself to God to do His will in your life.

Jesus is your example.  Pray like Jesus and do the Father’s will in your life!
