Examine Yourself

You like to think about yourself in good terms.  You focus on your strengths and see yourself in a good light.  Or, you may look at yourself in the mirror and see nothing but a negative appearance.  The fact is, you have an assessment of yourself.  The real you is never known to anyone else but to yourself.  You do not want other people to think that you view yourself either too highly or too negatively.

It is good to ask yourself every once in a while, “Based on my own work day, would I hire myself?”  Taking a long hard look at the real you, is difficult.  Maybe, that is the reason it seldom is done.  To become a better person, you have to have a realistic view of yourself.  Doing the things you do daily, am I a good worker?

What can be said of your occupational examination, should also be done for your spiritual life.  Are you living the kind of life that brings glory to Christ?  How do you measure up to biblical truth?  Now, don’t dwell on all the areas where you miss the mark of the exemplary Christian.  Just see if there is some improvement(s) you can make.

Romans 12:3 gives you some help in this thinking: “For though the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.”  Notice, the verse does not say you are not to evaluate your life.  It is saying do not get a big head to think better of yourself, than you should.  The verse closes by stating that you have a certain amount of “faith” given to you by Christ.  Go out there and live your life to the fullest within that amount of “faith.”

Yes, from time to time it is a good idea to examine yourself.  Know your strengths and live within them!
