Overcoming The Blues

You may be at the end of your rope right now, or on top of the world.  If you are stressed out right now, you want help.  The clouds are rolling in and all of them are dark grey and gloomy.  If you are feeling fantastic right now, just know that overcast days will eventually come your way.

The fact is you need to know just how you can overcome days where you feel down.  Dale Carnegie was a famous author and motivational speaker who knew people in-and-out.  In discussing the difference between feeling gloomy and elated, he said the following: “It isn’t what you have or who you are or where you are or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy.  It is what you think about it.  For example, two people may be in the same place, doing the same thing; both may have an equal amount of money and prestige – and yet one may be miserable and the other happy.  Why?  Because of different mental attitudes.”  That difference in mental attitude makes you feel either gloomy or upbeat.

But how can you have that upbeat attitude?  Scripture has the solution.  In discussing the correct mental attitude for you to have, it says, “Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5).  Yes, you are to have Jesus’ attitude.  What was His attitude?  The next verse tells you – He “did not regard equality with God.”  Jesus humbled Himself “taking on the form of a bond-servant” (v. 7).  When you serve the Lord God with your whole heart and focus your attention on living a Godly life, you will be amazed at just how you can experience abundant living.

To overcome the blues requires you to stop focusing your attention on yourself and what you want.  Start by living to be well-pleasing to God.  See those blues go right out the window!
