How To Get Ahead

When you are in school, you just can’t wait to get out so you can get a job and make money.  While you are in the workforce, that desire to make a little more money prevails.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting more money, so long as that thirst is not something that consumes you.  Just how you make more money is often puzzling.

You may think that more education is all that is needed to increase that income.  Many find after getting the required schooling that the increase in the paycheck is not even noticeable.  You next think that a change of jobs is the answer.  You may find that there is added income but the job satisfaction is greatly decreased.

Let’s look at some sound advice that is tried and proven to move you up the job ladder.  A Kentucky farmer entered his mule in the Kentucky Derby.  Someone was amazed to see that and asked about it.  He said, “I don’t think that he has much of a chance to win, but the association will do him good.”  Ha!  Ha!  Being in the Kentucky Derby many not give much benefit to a mule, but that principle works extremely well for you and me.  A quote from Bits & Pieces clearly states the principle: “Will Rogers always said people only learn through two things: one is reading and the other is association with smarter people.”  It has often been said that you become like the people whom with you hang around.

The Word of God gives you a clear principle to succeed in life.  It is stated in 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good morals.”  Notice, no matter how good your behavior may be, if you hang around people contrary to your beliefs, then you become like them.

To get ahead in this world pick carefully the people you associate with, and then spend time with them. That promotion may just be nearer than you think!
