Worry Wart Remedy

There are so many things of which we worry.  We worry about our financial future, our ability to make ends meet on a daily basis, we worry about our health, and so many other things.  When we do not have something to worry about, then we try to find something else in which   we can worry.

One unknown sage says this about worry, “worry is wasting today’s time to clutter up tomorrow’s opportunities with yesterday’s trouble.”  Now that is well stated.  Stop, and read through that quote one more time – slowly.  It reminds us of the total waste of time we experience when we worry.

Jesus taught about worry in His Sermon on the Mount.  He knew that we all fight the villain of worry in our lives from time to time.  So, He gave us wise counsel.  He first addresses our desire to worry about not having enough food or clothing or the necessities of life by stating, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matt. 6:33).  Jesus is telling us that if we will live totally for Him, then He will provide for our necessities.  To make sure that we understand that our lives are to free of worry, Jesus makes the following statement in the next verse: “So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will care for itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  Did you get Jesus’ point?  He is saying that He knows we are worrying, and that we need to stop it.  Plain and simple—stop worrying.

Worry accomplishes nothing but makes us feel uptight all the time and gives us health issues.  So, let’s put Jesus’ command into daily practice in our lives and stop worrying.  Take a deep breath and exhale.  The next step just requires you to stop thinking of the negative areas in your life to worry about, and to focus on the positive blessings God has already provided.
