Finding Meaning to Life

We often move from one activity to another but feel empty inside.  Our lives are full of one relationship after another without much personal satisfaction.  There seems to be in our lives a desire for fulfillment that never occurs.  Our hearts want so desperately to find meaning and purpose but it never seems to happen.  Our souls are longing for happiness that never comes.  It is like water slipping through our fingers as we try to grab a handful of it.

There is one and only one solution to satisfy this yearning deep within our souls.  Pascal, the seventeenth-century mathematician, philosopher, and author, declared, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which only God can fill through His Son, Jesus Christ.”  Yes, God created man to have fellowship with Him.  Back in the book of Genesis, God created man in His own image.  Thus, to find happiness and contentment in life on earth, we all can only do this with a right relationship with Jesus Christ.

In Jesus’ discourse of  the Good Shepherd, He tells His disciples that He is the door and that all others are thieves and robbers.  After that statement, Jesus makes it clear what He means, as He says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they might have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).  Jesus uses the “thief” to refer to Satan.  Satan’s main goal is to keep us from accepting Christ as our Savior and then to live for Him.  As we live our lives in obedience to the Word of God, Jesus tells us that we will “have life, and have it abundantly.”  Nothing else satisfies our soul like having Jesus inside us.

There are lots of things in this life that will bring quick, momentary fulfillment.  There is only one thing that we can do to find complete satisfaction every moment of every day, and that is to have a right relationship with Jesus Christ.  Now, that is something to celebrate!
