That Dogeared Determination

If you ask some people what is the key to their success, they will tell you being at the right place at the right time.  Others may say that their success is knowing the right people to help them succeed.  These may be true, but the theme that most important inventors, business professionals, and even Christians follow, is that you must be a person of persistence.  Just keep to the task in the good times and in the bad times.

Benjamin Franklin is known as a statesman, an inventor, and a founder of our nation.  There are numerous patents associated with his many inventions.  One such invention of his, that I appreciate, is the invention of glasses.  The glasses I wear, to assist my vision, are a direct result of his diligence.  When talking about persistence, Ben has this to say, “Energy and persistence conquer all things.”  There is no substitute for staying in the trenches until the job is complete.

Jesus knew the importance of persistence in the Christian’s life.  This area Jesus focused His attention on was the area of prayer.  Of all the areas of life that require persistence, prayer is the most crucial.  In prayer, Jesus tells us about the power in prayer when He tells us that mountains can be moved by prayer.  Just think about it; when you pray you are communicating with the very Creator of this whole universe, including yourself.  “I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs” (Luke 11:8).  This is a parable where Christ is emphasizing the need for persistence in prayer.

To accomplish life’s challenges put that dogeared determination into action, and while you are at it, make sure to apply persistence to your prayer life; the doors of heaven are waiting to open up and hear from you.
