Aging Well

So often we live full of opportunities, when we are young and optimistic. Then somewhere along the path of life we lose that enthusiasm and become complacent with life. Too many people get older and become senile or at best do not get involved in the everyday activities that the young people get involved in. These activities include: staying young mentally, physically, emotionally, and with personal aspirations and desires.

Henry A. Ironside wrote many commentaries about the Holy Scriptures and was a tremendous pastor of years past. One day he wanted to express his view of growing older and stated it this way: “Oh, God, keep me from being a foolish old man. Help me end well.” I think what Henry was telling us is that we should not lie down and just accept the fact we are getting older and slow down. Henry was saying we should be just as active, within reason, in our old age as we were in our younger years.

The Holy Bible speaks of this in Matthew 11:29, where Jesus is talking: “Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me…” Jesus is in the early 30s when He said this. He is no youth, but He tells us to take whatever the Lord God dishes out to us and move forward to do ALL that we can with as much gusto as we can. That is the way I see the Lord Jesus living His life for the glory of God.

So pull up your shoestrings, get into the fast lane, and serve the Lord Jesus with ALL your mind, body, and soul !!!
