Putting Off Until Tomorrow

You are probably like some people who would rather put off until tomorrow instead of doing something today.  This mindset taken to the extreme leads you to get very little done.  It can immobilize you in getting things done, which often leads to some state of depression.

When you get down and actually do something you had planned, then you feel good about yourself.  There is a sense of self-satisfaction in accomplishment.  The bigger the accomplishment, the bigger is the feeling of self-worth.

Lorne Sanney of the Navigators said his father told him all the instruction to Lorne could be summarized in four words, “Get with it, son.”  There is a lot of wisdom in those four words.  To accomplish anything requires you to take action and get about the tasks at hand.

The Holy Bible gives an account where Jesus is speaking and telling His disciples, indirectly, to get with it in accomplishing the tasks at hand.  He tells the parable of the ten virgins:  five were foolish and did not bring enough oil with them as they anxiously awaited the coming of the bridegroom at night.  Five were wise and brought enough oil with them as they awaited the coming of the bridegroom at night.  The result is the 5 foolish virgins left to go get more oil and when they returned the guests had entered and the door was shut.  They were not allowed to enter.  Jesus closes the parable with these words, “Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour” (Matt. 25:13).    Obviously, the meaning of the parable is to be prepared for the kingdom of God comes at an hour when you least expect it.  Also, the parable shows you that to be prepared you must do what needs to be done now and not to wait.

Realize that putting off to tomorrow can have drastic consequences.  Whatever the Lord Jesus is prompting you to do, do not put it off until tomorrow.  Do it today!
