The Hard Sayings Of The Bible

You do not have to be a Christian very long, until you find those verse(s) in the Holy Bible that you do not understand.  The fact is, that as you grow in your Christian knowledge of spiritual things, there emerge more verse(s) that are beyond your understanding.  This causes some believers to question the Scriptures; some even walk away from their faith.

Charles Spurgeon was a popular and mighty pastor of the 1800s.  A theological student came to Charles Spurgeon one day, greatly concerned that he could not grasp the meaning of certain verses in the Bible.  The noted preacher replied kindly but firmly, “Young man, allow me to give you this word of advice.  Give the Lord credit for knowing things you don’t understand.”  Think about it.  If God is infinitely more intelligent than you are, which He has to be in order to be omniscient, doesn’t it just make sense that He will know a whole lot more than you do?  God must know more than you do in order for Him to be God.  Like Michael W. Smith says, “God is God, and I am not.”  That is a much needed fact for you to know and live by.

The Word of God makes it clear that certain things God knows but man simply does not know.  “Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!  How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!” (Romans 11:33).  Simply stated this verse tells you that some things in life you will never, ever understand.  That should give you great hope and increase your faith, since, if you knew everything God knew, then He would not be “unsearchable” or “unfathomable.”

So, to handle those hard sayings of the Bible, just accept them on faith because God in His inerrant Word says that is the way it is.  After all, that is what living my faith is all about.
