The Emancipation

Whenever a Christian realizes that he/she is free to live their lives before God, not in bondage to sin, there is a tendency to live the life without any constraints.  The believers often times do not take sin seriously and live as he/she pleases with the thought that they are now free from any constraints.  This is incorrect thinking.

Every Christian is free to do as he/she wishes as long as their behavior does not conflict with Scripture.  There are many areas of life that the Bible does not give clear black and white commands as to how one is to live their life.  These areas the believer, in their own conscience, has the freedom to either do it or refrain from doing it.  That is where the freedom comes into the life of the Christian.  When the Bible clearly teaches that a thought or action is sinful, there is no question that it should not become part of the thoughts or behavior of the believer.  One person put it this way, “Freedom is not the right to do as a person pleases, but the liberty to do as he ought.”  Now, that is sound advice.

The Holy Bible teaches that once a person accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior that they are set free.  That same verse teaches that the Christian is not to practice sin any longer.  Galatians 5:1 is very specific in clarifying the believer’s responsibilities, “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore, keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.”  In other words, use your freedom carefully.  You are to exercise your freedom as long as it does not cause you to sin.

So, you have been emancipated from your sinful lifestyle as an unbeliever to a free life as a believer in Christ.  Go out in the world and live the life you feel free to live,, but remember that your freedom does not give you a license to go live as you please, regardless of what the Bible dictates as sin.  Now, that is truly living!
