Mental Complacency

As an electrical engineer I am fascinated by science and mathematics.  Since the only biology class I ever had was in high school, needless to say that is not one of my areas of expertise.  But one thing I do know is that the brain is extremely, extremely complex.  What baffles all students of biology is the fact that the more scientists and doctors learn about the brain, the more complex it gets.  This is an enigma, since in a lot of cases the more researchers learn about an area, the simpler it becomes.

How are you doing in utilizing those cranium cells?  Have you given up on learning?  Are you growing in knowledge in subjects that interest you?  Age has nothing to do with it.  You should be increasing in knowledge no matter how young or old you are.  Former President Harry Truman saw a friend of his, an older man reading Plato’s Republic.  “Why are you reading that?”  He responded, “I may be old, but I’m growing.”  Stop!  Re-read that last sentence and let it sink in.  Never, never stop mentally growing!

The Holy Scriptures command you to study, study, study the Word of God.  “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the Word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15).   The verbs in this verse need to be applied to the way you study the Scriptures—“be diligent,” “approved to God,” “does not need to be ashamed,” and “handling accurately.”  There is nothing wrong with reading and studying secular books, but too often believers read secular books, cruise the web, or watch TV but seldom touch their Bibles.

Every day you are getting older, so as you are getting older never stop exercising those brain cells.  You will never overfill your brain.

If you don’t know how to study your Bible, just go to your computer or tablet web browser and there is more there than you will need.  For most believers it is not a lack of knowledge in how to study their Bible, but a lack of self-control in time management to make time to study their Bible.  You have to make time; it is never convenient.

Get those brain cells active.  Start studying today!
