A Trait Never Forgotten

Some people just stand out in your mind as time goes by. There may be many reasons that person holds a special place in your heart—he/she helped you in time of need, a word of encouragement was given when needed most, some wise words were offered that changed your life forever, as well as many others. The bottom line to all of these is that the person offered a little kindness when kindness was needed.

Love and kindness go hand in hand. When love is shown, then kindness follows. When kindness is shown, then love follows. The Lord Jesus said much about love, but as He was speaking about love an underlying theme was that of kindness. Kindness is what everyone from the toddler to the elderly wants and so desires. It can make a difference between meeting a need and just giving lip service to a need. Yes, showing kindness is essential to a loving relationship.

One person that the world admires as a Christian leader is Billy Graham. Billy Graham has this to say about kindness, “Often the only thing that a child can remember about an adult in later years, when he or she is grown, is whether or not that person was kind to him or her.” Stop! Let that sink in! It does not matter, really, how many toys you give a child. What matters is if you talked and acted in kindness. As adults, often the act of kindness done to you by others reflects the real character of that other person.

When Paul talks to the Colossians about putting on the new self as believers he commands them in chapter 3 and verse 12, “And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” There it is; kindness is one of the ways that others can tell that you have a renewed nature in Christ.

Start today to spread a little more kindness around. Remember, what goes around comes around.
