Ready, Set, Go!

Life is full of activities that you do not want to tackle. You just don’t seem to have the motivation to start the task, let alone finish it. The activity really needs you to do what it takes to complete it, but the get-up-and-go has got-up-and-went. There just seem to be certain activities that are of the utmost to start and tackle that seem to move through our hands as water flowing through them. No matter how hard you try, the gumption just isn’t there to get you going.

There comes a time when you have to grab hold of your pants and just pull them up and get to work. This elusive enigma is what you might call diligence. Diligence is the ability to start a task and keep at it until the task is complete and complete the right way. A short story may help you see the importance of getting off the dime and doing something right now. Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle: When the sun comes up, you had better be running.

Now, that is all well and good, but you still struggle with putting that into action. What you need is some spiritual fuel to put in your tank to assist you in doing what you know needs to be done. The Holy Scriptures are not silent on this matter; take what the Book of books says and let the Holy Spirit empower you to do in the Spirit what you cannot do in the flesh. Romans 12:11 cuts through all the flack and commands you to be diligent: “not lagging behind in diligence.” This is a command from the Lord God Himself so you know it is obtainable. The Lord never commands you to do anything that He does not equip you to be able to perform. So when He says that you are “not lagging behind in diligence,” what He is basically saying is, “I will give you the diligence you need to start and complete any given task only ask Me to empower you to do so and I will do it.”

All things are possible to those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is time; ready, set, go let’s conquer that task that needs doing. Ask Jesus for His diligence right now!
