No Time Like Now

The Christian life is the most fulfilling, yet most challenging life on earth. It is fulfilling because we have an intimate relationship with the Living God, which brings you the ultimate satisfaction that this world can offer. Then it is challenging because you strive to live a holy, spiritual life while engaged in an unholy, physical world full of distractions. Thus, your life is full of tension.

To decrease the tension you feel between being heavenly minded and earthly living, let’s consider what I recently read: my love for the Lord is not measured by the things I am willing to do for Him—but the things I am not willing to do for Him. Most of the time when you tells others how much you love the Lord, you tell them the things you are doing for Him. Face it though; those are usually the things that come easier for you to do. By doing activities does show that you love the Lord. But what shows your Love even greater, are those activities you are will to give up for the Lord. This is especially true if the activity is one that you truly enjoy and find great satisfaction in doing.

The Scriptures tell you how to go about living that kind of Christian life: “I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God which is your spiritual service of worship, and do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, that which is good and acceptable and perfect” (Rom. 12:1-2). Being a “living and holy sacrifice” is what you might call living a victorious Christian life. The way to do that God says is by being “transformed by the renewing of your mind.” That word “transformed” means to totally change from one thing into another. To change from being a worldly Christian into a heaven minded Christian requires changing the way you think, which will change the way you act. To change your thinking requires you to have a “renewing of your mind.” Your mind is renewed into a holy mind by no other means than by the Word of God. This means that you must read, study, and memorize Scripture to renew your mind.

There is no time like now to start a consistent program of Bible reading, study, and/or memorizing. There is no other way to eliminate that daily tension you experience.
