Does It Really Matter How I Live?

You may think that it really doesn’t matter how you live your life. If you were to explain, you might even say you are the only one involved in your activity. This is seldom if ever the case. Almost without exception your actions have visible consequences. Granted, the consequences may not surface for quite some time, but surface they will.

Blaise Pascal was definitely right when he said it this way: “One-half of the ills of life come because men are unwilling to sit down quietly for thirty minutes to think through all the possible consequences of their acts.” Implied is that every act you do has consequences either good or bad. With evaluating the outcome of your acts, it may possibly alter your course of action. Thus, evaluating your actions will determine how you choose to live your life. This in turn answers the beginning question, “Does it really matter how I live?” Yes, it does in fact matter; because how you live your life has consequences.

The Holy Bible says much about you living your life in light of eternal consequences. For one thing, there is a lot of Scripture that talks about judgment one day. This means that there are consequences to the decisions you make and the way you live your life. For another thing, the Scriptures are very explicit in stating that the way you live your life has eternal consequences: “So then each one of you shall give an account of himself to God” (Romans 14:12). It does not get much plainer than that. Everything you do in this life will be evaluated before a heavenly Judge one day. Since this is true, you will do well to thoroughly think through what you will do in a particular situation “before” you do it. Consequences will follow.

Start today to think “before” you act. Remember, God shall one day evaluate every act that you do. Go and live accordingly!
