It’s A Secret

There is something about telling secrets that mankind finds down right pleasurable. You like to be in the know, so that others are not. It started as a child. Most children cannot stand for someone else to know a secret and them not know it. It starts with childhood but continues trough adolescent years and culminates in adulthood. Often times you are tempted to do something you know is wrong but rationalize by telling yourself that no one will know; you will keep it a secret.

Thomas Bahington Macaulay hit the nail on the head when he said: “The measure of a man’s real character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.” What wrong act would you perform if you knew that it would be a secret known only to you? Whatever that is, that reveals your true character. It tells you what you really are deep inside yourself. This can be a good thing to know, because it can and should lead you to depend on Jesus’ power to keep you on the straight and narrow path of eternal blessings.

Some people believe that their deep secrets will never be found out. They are right about one thing; their secrets may never be known to anyone here on earth. That brings us to an even deep awareness that even though no one on earth may know, God will know. I can hear you now saying, “How do we know that God knows all, even the secret events of our life?” The Bible is not silent on this issue. Read and let the words of Romans 2:16 sink deep into your cranium so that next time you are tempted to commit a secret sin you will know there are consequences to your sin: “on the day when according to the gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.” Yep, that verse tells us plain and simple that Jesus Christ will judge every man’s secrets one day after he dies. That refers to believers and unbelievers alike. So next time you are tempted to commit a secret sin, stop and ask the Lord for the power to overcome it. Otherwise, one day you will suffer the consequences.

Hopefully, you do not struggle with secret sins. Remember, the desire to commit secret sins only tells you what is in your heart. No sin has yet been committed. Everybody needs to pray that the Lord takes away and keeps you from the desire to commit secret sins! Praise God for His power in our lives that helps us overcome temptation!
