The Usefulness Of One

Often times you lose direction and get busy doing too many things. After all, you have many tasks to juggle and keep on top of each one. Life is a jungle that has many requirements and often times the busyness of life takes over. I am reminded of that old saying: jack-of-all-trades and master of none. Sometimes you have to stop, look at what you are doing, and get back on track to the most urgent or most important tasks at hand.

There is much to be said about having some variety in your life. It is variety that keeps you sane and often invigorates you to reach new boundaries. But remember, variety may be the spice of life, but monotony brings home the bacon. Man is that ever true. As much fun as it might be to bounce around between many tasks, nothing much really gets accomplished until you zero in and focus on just a few important matters.

The Bible talks about this single focus that is needed in your life, as well. The Bible has a group of verses that scream out to us the importance of unity. “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all” (Eph. 4:4-6). The word “one” is mentioned seven times in these three short verses. There is much that can be said about these verses, but one characteristic that is obvious is the focus on keeping it simple with only “one.”

The importance of a laser focus on just one, or at most a few, matters is biblical and logical. How are you doing at using your spiritual gift(s)? Are those areas where you excel in serving the Lord being utilized by you consistently and regularly?

Let’s be about bringing home some bacon by staying focused on the few matters in which you excel in your lives. Start today!!
