Defining The Infinite

One attribute of God that immediately becomes obvious to anyone seeking Him is that He is infinite. Infinite not in just one area of life but every area of His existence. He is totally infinite. He is infinite in space and time, meaning He is everywhere at any point of time present, past, or future. The mere fact that every and all attributes He possesses are infinite simply blows our minds. How can we, as mortal, finite creatures, relate to such a being as God? How can we know Him? There is no simple solution to this. Perhaps the only way we really know and experience Him is by us experiencing His love for us.

When we think about God, often our minds get fuzzy and unclear as we try to untangle the tangled web of infinity. I like the way one sage of yesteryear put it: Isn’t it odd, that a being like God, who sees the façade, still loves the clod, He made out of sod? Now isn’t that odd? It is more than odd; it is unbelievable that God who knows us fully and completely still loves us with a boundless love.

It was God the Father’s love for each one of us that moved Him to send His only son, Jesus, to come to earth and die for our sins. Even the Old Testament affirms God the Father’s love for humanity. “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, I have drawn you with lovingkindness” (Jer. 31:3). God loves us, and the result of that love is that He surrounds us daily with His love. Wow! That is an amazing thought; the God of heaven and earth surrounds me daily with His continual love.

Some things in life we will never experience: x-ray vision, running faster than a car, knowing everything there is to know about a subject, and on and on the list goes. BUT there is one thing every person on planet earth can experience, and that is the love of the Lord God. Thus, to know God is to experience God, and to experience God is to experience His perpetual love for us. Relax! Forget the worries of this world, and experience the infinite. Experience God’s love right now!
