Is Anything Worth Dying For?

Pastor’s Pen

We do lots of things in life that require us to stay at the task until it is finished. We make every effort possible to graduate from high school. Some continue on to college and put forth all their energy to get that degree. Then, sometime in our lives, we get a job and work hard to do it well. On and on life goes by us setting goals and attaining them.

Chuck Colson tells of speaking on the campus of a secular university. He was talking about his commitment to Christ and mentioned that he was willing, if necessary, to die on behalf of the Savior. A young man in the crowd angrily interrupted, shouting, “C’mon. C’mon. Nothing is worth dying for!” To which Colson replied, “If there is nothing you are willing to die for, then I submit you have nothing to live for!” Now, that is something worth thinking about. To have something to really live for, we must be willing to die for it. Otherwise, life does not have much meaning.

When Paul was writing to his friend and fellow minister in the gospel, he told Timothy, “O, Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust” (1 Tim. 6:20a). Paul is also talking to you and to me. He is telling us that we need to treasure very dearly those truths, which the Lord has taught us. We are commanded in Scripture to hold fast, and not deviate from the Bible truths we know.

Go live daily for the Lord like never before!!!
