What Happens When We Pray

Pastor’s Pen

There are many disciplines that we are to perform in the Christian life. These include such things as: loving other Christians first then loving unbelievers, worshipping the Lord on a regular basis, letting Christ shine through us, praying for our needs and the needs of other, and there are many others you could add to this list. The Lord seems to be continually reminding me of the importance of prayer. I guess one reason is that as long as we are alive we can pray for our needs and the needs of others. That is a powerful ministry that every Christian can attain.

Our prayers are very powerful. When we pray, the gates of hell are shattered, and we have access directly to the throne room of God, Himself. Many believers throughout the ages have seen the power of God through the prayers of others. Mary, Queen of Scots, said she feared the prayers of John Knox more than the efforts of ten thousand soldiers. She may not have believed or cared much for the preaching of the great preacher John Knox; even though she may not have taken much stock in his preaching, she was in holy fear of his prayers. Why is this? It is because the prayers of believers matter.

The Bible is full of examples of believers who prayed and the gates of heaven were opened. Also, in our world today, prayer warriors continually see God move into action to answer their prayers.

We are all commanded to pray. Scripture tells us in Romans 12:12, “rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer.” Yes, we are to be people of prayer.

If you want to impact this world for Christ, then pray fervently. Those in leadership in the USA may even notice!!
