Eliminating The Blues

You may spend more time, than you would like, feeling in the dumps.  You would like to have the joy of the Lord, but it seems to be a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow; it is forever illusive.  The harder you try to not think about the emptiness, the deeper that melancholy grips your soul.

Alfred Adler made a significant contribution to the development of psychology.  His theory, simplified, states that humanity is motivated primarily through social relationships.  Some psychologists practice this philosophy today.  In dealing with depression, he has this to say, “You can be cured in fourteen days [to patients afflicted with melancholia] if you follow this prescription.  Try to think every day how you can please someone.”  Yes, every pastor that took pastoral counseling knows that the best way to overcome depression is to get involved serving others.

The Holy Bible teaches that a believer is set free from the bondage of legalism.  Legalism is the strict adherence to a set of rules in order to gain approval from God.  The Word states that you are set free and gives instruction as to how you are to live that life of freedom—“For you were called to freedom, brethren, only do not call your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another” (Galatians 5:13).

Your life is to be one where you serve other Christians.  According to Alfred Adler, this service eradicates depression.,  This service to others is good for your soul (from Galatians) and is good for your emotional state (from Adler’s observations).

Go out into your world and set your mind on ways to serve others.  Don’t be surprised that as you serve other, then you eliminate the blues!

  1. I haven’t been able to get much if any here lately. Not one to share my personal information on Facebook but have shared a little. Can’t continue to cover up my health issues. I probably said the most in a Rick Warren’s daily devotion I added some excerpts in. My health issues were mentioned towards the end defeating my purpose because most people do not read info added to the pics from Rick Warren I post. Took everything in me to share. Haven’t been able to go to church. Been watching Charles Stanley on TV. Found another guy I enjoy watching early in the mornings but can’t remember his name. Have 2 appointments with specialists coming up. One is next week on the 5th, a consultation to see if I’m eligible. Hope I am for once. If I am, my insurance covers all expenses for this treatment which is unbelievable. Finishing scheduling other appointment that I can’t wait to go to. Heard lots of successful stories about this place. Please keep me in your prayers. Enjoy your blog. Didn’t see if Tuesday but not on social media as much. Besides, having connection problems in the community this week. And we have power outages 2 or 3 times a week daily now. And I was having connection problems over a month ago. My lines were corroded and were replaced. They were to be buried within 2 weeks, but that department is on strike!!! LOL

    • Hello Donna,

Thanks for keeping in touch with me; I “greatly” appreciate it. Yes, of course, I am in prayer with you. Sorry, to hear of your health issues but hopefully you will find relief soon. Most weeks I post my blogs on Tuesdays and Fridays. Sometimes I am not able to do this but those times are only a few times throughout the year. If you do not see a post just keep looking because I will post again soon. You know how life is; it just seems to get in the way of me posting my blogs every single week 52 weeks a year. Just part of being human! LOL Thanks again for reading and sharing my blogs! Keep me posted to your prayer requests. Also, let me know how you are doing. Give Boss a “big” hug for me!! LOL Please let me know if I can be of further assistance! I know what you mean about sharing personal information on facebook; I do not do that either. Feel free to keep in touch with me at my email which is docrobin115@gmail.com – I would love to hear from you and support you any way I can. Keep looking up!!
