To Have One Be One

When you were a child, you had a best friend with whom you played with more than anyone else.  There was a bond between you and that person that you could not describe in words.  As you became a teenager, again you had a best friend.  And as time progressed and you became an adult, there is still that special person who lights up your life when you are around them.  Friends are people that help give meaning to life on planet earth.

The question is, what kind of friend are you? There are two kinds of people: those who brighten the room when they enter and those who brighten the room when they leave.  Take a minute or two and deeply ponder that question truthfully.  The answer may ever surprise you.  Truth be known, few people actually brighten a room when they enter.  Most people either are there to just make their presence known or either are just shy in the corner, but few are those who actually brighten the room.  Those who do this are often the ones with the most friends.

Family members so often are the people whom you are closest to.  They know you better than anyone else and still love you to the moon and back.  Brothers and sisters seem to have even a more special bond.  The Bible describes exactly what a true and faithful friend is all about in Proverbs 17:17, “A friend loves at all times.”  Any person or family member who loves you, more than you can express in words, is the true friend in your life.

When talking about friends you are probably often heard it said, “To have one you have to be one.”  The more you practice that the more friends you will have.

Go be a friend who loves someone else all the time, not just when it is convenient for you.  Then you will brighten up their day and in the process brighten up yours, as well.
