A Model To Emulate

Think for a moment of the people in your life that have had a profound influence in your life. They may have been people you met or people your read about or saw on TV. These could include your parents, a relative, a teacher, a pastor, a celebrity, or a host of other people. These people influenced you by their words, actions, and/or lifestyle. They may have even changed the direction of your life.

One historical figure who probably has had a profound impact on your life is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ. A mother was telling her small boy what manner of person a Christian should be. When the lesson was finished, the mother got a stab she never forgot, when her son asked seriously, “Mother, have I ever seen a Christian?” Ouch! That same question could be asked of you, “Are you acting like a Christian?” A close examination of your life may reveal a startling fact that you may not ever forget.

The main point of the whole Bible is the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. From Genesis to Revelation, the Scriptures all point to Jesus. Since this is true, how do you make sure you are living daily for Christ? The answer is found in Colossians 3:1-2, “If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on the earth.” Notice, the progression of the thought in these verses. First, it assumes that you are a Christian by saying, “if you have been raised up with Christ.” Next, they tell you what you are to do, if you are a Christian—“keep seeking the things above.” And finally, they tell you how to daily live for Christ when they say “set your mind on the things that are above.” Thus, to live daily means keeping your daily moment-by-moment focus on heavenly things “not on the things that are on the earth.”

May I offer a little advice? The best way to keep focused on heaven, no matter where you are, is to memorize some Scripture and meditate on it throughout the day.

To keep from being shocked by realizing that others may not see you as a Christian, start today memorizing and meditating on Scripture. Your daily life and attitude will change for the better!
