Conquering Our Enemy

As we travel through life, we sometimes come across people with whom we disagree. But there are a few times in our lives when we come across someone who is an enemy of ours. No matter how we try to get along with them, they are bound and determined to destroy us. We call such people bitter enemies.

In our spiritual lives we need to remember that there is one who is our most vicious and vile enemy; it is Satan or the Devil, himself. A missionary in Africa says there are three beasts that lie in wait for their prey: the lion, the leopard, and the hyena. They hyena does not devour, but attacks only the vital organs and quickly leaves after eating a few meager mouthfuls. The leopard, too, does not eat its prey, but desires only its blood. The lion, however, completely devours its helpless victim, not leaving a single portion. What a perfect picture of Satan, the destroyer of souls. He wants to completely destroy the Christian.

The Holy Scriptures tells us in 1 Peter 5:8: “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” Satan is on the prowl just looking for someone who is in a weak moment of temptation to devour them spiritually. How can we keep from being devoured by the devil? By being “of sober spirit” or humble before the Lord and by being “on the alert.” We have to anticipate that Satan will attack us. The Bible goes on to say in verse 9, “but resist him, firm in your faith.” There we go; God tells exactly how to defeat Satan each and every time we are tempted. We do this by not yielding to Satan, but resisting him and by taking a firm stand in totally living our lives every moment of every day by keeping our faith in the Holy Scriptures.

Defeat our enemy, Satan, by resisting him and obeying the Scriptures!! Do this today and every day of your life!!!
