Too Good to Be True

Good news in always music to your ears.  Sometimes the news is so fantastic that it just seems to be too good to be true.  As you reflect upon fantastic news, in regards to you being a Christian, a number of things come to your mind.  You will spend eternity in heaven.  Your sins are forever forgiven.  Christ fills you with love and joy.  These are all fabulous benefits of being a Christian, but being saved by grace only is humanly unthinkable.

You are saved by grace.  Donald Grey Barnhouse was a great preacher and theologian of the last century.  His writings today are used by pastors worldwide.  In discussing grace, he said it this way, “Love that reaches up is adoration, love that reaches across is affection, love that reaches down is grace.”

The Scriptures teach that you are saved by grace and grace alone, and when it describes your Lord Jesus Christ, it talks about Him being full of grace.  “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).  This verse reminds you that the God of the universe became human and lived on earth.  Jesus came to earth with all the glory of God the Father.  As this verse describes the nature of Christ, it says that Christ is “full of grace and truth.”  Yes, the epitome of grace is found in its fulness in Jesus Christ.

You may be in a place where you need a little word of encouragement.  You may need some news that is too good to be true.  Jesus saves you by His grace and sustains you to walk everyday by His grace.  When life’s blows take the wind out of your sails, turn to the Lord Jesus and let Him fill you with His grace.  Yes, the Lord’s grace is sufficient to get you through whatever challenges life on earth may bring.
