You probably think of the movie Star Wars as you ponder the words the dark side. Those words conger up thoughts of evil. The Holy Bible does not mention the dark side, but it does mention darkness. The Scriptures mention darkness as compared to light, and light being God Himself.
When thinking about darkness, think of your earliest memories of darkness. A short story about darkness, may be one you can identify with in your life. A father once told his young boy to go to bed. He started up the stairs but realized it was dark and he couldn’t reach the light switch. He went back, but his dad told him to go on up because God was there. The boy knew that was the final answer, so he started up. But on the first step he stopped, looked up, and said, “God, if you’re up there, please don’t move or you’ll scare me to death.” Ha! Ha! Darkness brings that kind of response to you.
The Word of God talks a lot about darkness. Jesus Christ mentions the contrast between Him being the light, and the world without Christ being in darkness when He said, “So Jesus said to them, ‘For a little while longer the Light is among you. Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes’” (John 12:35).
The world without Christ is in darkness. To get out of the darkness requires that you come to Jesus for salvation. At that point you turn from darkness to the Light.
Yes, the darkness may scare you, or at least make you uncomfortable. With Christ in your life, there is no need to be fearful. Jesus is the Light and in Him there is no darkness at all.
Once you have Jesus, the Light of the world, in your life, you will never have to fear the darkness or the dark side of life anymore. I think I see a ray of light right now!
