Your life is full of one decision after another. Granted, a lot of the decisions you make are relatively mundane. You make such decisions as: what to eat, to eat out or at home, how to spend your leisure time, who to spend your free time with, and so on. There are, also, some fairly important decisions you make along your earthly pilgrimage. Decisions such as the following: upon graduation from high school do you work or go to college, if you work what do you do, if you go to college where do you go and what do you major in, what job should you take after getting the proper instruction, who do you marry, where do you live, if you feel God pulling at your life strings, what kind of involvement is He asking you to make?
There are many, many decisions to make while on earth. Josh Billings has some sound advice to give you every time an opportunity arises where you need to make a decision: “One-half the troubles of this life can be traced to saying yes too quickly and not saying no soon enough.” Now, there is a world of wisdom. You say, “Yes,” before adequate time to reflect, think, and, especially, pray about the matter. Afterwards, getting out of that mess you make yourself, can get awful sticky. Also, when you know deep down inside yourself that the answer is no, you find it difficult to say. The result is you spend way too much mental activity thinking about something you just need to pass up and move on.
The Lord God knows that life on planet earth has plenty of decisions that must be made. Some decisions are relatively small but a good number are fairly large. The Lord tells you exactly what to do in each and every situation: “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him” (Jam. 1:5). Yes, for every decision you have, all you have to do is to pray to the Lord for Him to give you wisdom in your decision. Now, that should greatly help with your trouble in making decisions.
