Everything you see in the culture around you screams the importance of me. The magazine entitled Self just shows the theme of the present time. Books by the hundreds come out each year focused on self-help and self-improvement. Today’s social media is focused on helping you do this or that; it is all about self.
David Weiss changes direction and express the most important words you can say to someone else, “The six most important words are, ‘I admit I made a mistake.’ The five most important words are, ‘You did a good job.’ The four most important words are, ‘What is your opinion?’ The three most important words are, ‘If you please.’ The two most important words are, ‘Thank you.’ The least important word is, ‘I.’” Wow! Stop! Take a deep look into the things you do, the attitudes you have, and your goals in life. Chances are they revolve around “you.”
Life on earth is hard enough with the culture and environment in which you live pulsates with its constant emphasis on self. Add to it the Satanic influence on this world, and you are doomed to failure without the help of the Lord Jesus Christ.
John the Baptist is seen in the Scriptures as having a very successful ministry. Men and women are coming by the droves to hear him and to be baptized by him for the forgiveness of their sins. Then Jesus shows up. The masses are now following Jesus, instead of John. Notice, the Bible never says one word of resentment from John. Amazing! John’s focus is not on himself but on God. As people are leaving his following in great numbers, notice his response to his disciples as they bring that to his attention, “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30).
In this “me” generation in which you live, keep your eyes and mind focused on heavenly things, not earthly. After all, as the least important word is, “I,’ the most important word is, “Jesus!”
