A Word To The Married

Think back to the time, when you were dating the person that is presently your mate.  Every waking moment was spent thinking about that other person.  You thought of them in the daytime and dreamt of them at night.  To be specific, you were consumed with the desire to be in the company of your present mate.

As time passes, however, if you are not careful, that person who you longed to be with is now taken for granted.  When that attitude continues for some time, often the result is that the marriage dissolves.  A woman said to her marriage counselor, “I married looking for an ideal.  But I got an ordeal and now I want a new deal.”  You smile.  It is humorous and would be funny if that practice were not common today.  That is the problem.  How do you remedy that situation?  Martin Luther, the reformer that spurred Christendom to be founded, said this about marriage, “Let the wife make the husband glad to come home, and let him make her sorry to see him leave.”  Men and women put this into practice in practical ways to make it appealing to that other person.

Proverbs 18:22 states God perspective of a Godly marriage, “He who find a wife find a good thing.”  Men, your wife is the greatest asset that your life possesses.  Make sure she is treated appropriately.  Women, renew that deep, committed love for your husband that you had on that day you took those wedding vows.  If the marriage needs some work, the two of you need to sit down and discuss that there is a problem and how you both intend to correct it.

If you are newlyweds, think of new ways to show your love for that spouse.  If you have been married for a while, start doing those things you did as a newlywed or surprise each other with doing something new.  Remember, your marriage deal is your best deal!
