That Critical Comment

You face, on a consistent basis, the onslaught of critical comments.  It does not matter what your occupation is, the fact that you are confronted with criticism is a sure bet.  Your criticism may occur frequently or infrequently, but the surety of it happening is a reality.

A man once approached Charles M. Alexander, R. A. Torrey’s song leader, and said, “I believe in trying to win men to Christ, but I don’t like your methods.”  “I don’t like them very well either,” Mr. Alexander replied.  “Tell me, how do you do it?”  The man hesitated, his face got red, and he finally stammered, “Well—I’m not sure I do it at all.”  “In that case,” Mr. Alexander replied, “I like my way better than yours.”  So often you may encounter someone criticizing you for this or that, but the fact is that they are not doing anything better.

The Holy Bible tells you what you are to meditate on every day in Philippians 4:8, “…and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”  Every chance you get give someone a compliment.  You are thinking of the common places like the home, church, and work.  Of course, those areas of your life should be sprinkled with praise from you.  What about those uncommon places?  Places like the grocery store, your neighbor(s), and people you meet that you may never see again.  Yes, compliments should flow from your lips there, too.

Critical comments are going to come, so prepare yourself for them.  If criticism was unleashed upon our Savior, then you can expect them in your life.  Be known as a person who sees the best in everyone.

Seek the Lord in what you should do and say, then proceed forward leaving the critics behind.  If you are doing God’s will for your life, do it with gusto.  Let your life be the one doing it by spreading words “worthy of praise.”
