There is one fact of life that every person on earth faces one day. It is not the fact that you must attend school or that you will get sick. In fact, there are numerous things that are inevitable during your earthly pilgrimage. The fact that I want to focus your attention on briefly is that one day you will die.
Some people have reported that they have died and seen the life hereafter before being resuscitated. Many of those people say they saw a bright, shining light and were drawn toward it. Regardless, the fact remains that you will die one day.
Alexander the Great left orders that when he was carried to the grave, his hands should not be left in the specially treated clothes used of the embalmers of that day, but rather be exposed to view so that all might see that they were empty! You cannot take anything with you when you leave this earth. The only thing you take with you when you leave this earth and go to either heaven or hell is the relationships you had on earth. You leave behind everything else!
Jesus was talking with Martha about Lazarus being dead, which is recorded in John 11:25, “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in Me will live even if he dies.’” Notice, Jesus’ emphasis. He told her that He is the way to life eternal. Jesus states “I am…the life” and in Him you “will live even if you die.”
Since the fact that life on earth terminates one day, you need to be prepared to die. Put forth your goals and earthly desires for eternal rewards. Otherwise, if you live for life on this earth, then you will one day lose everything that you strived for while on earth.
That shining light may well be Jesus, so prepare yourself for meeting Him!
