Striving Not Just Surviving

You have reached a place in your life, sometimes, when it was all you could do to cope with life.  You felt like all your energy was spent just keeping your head above the water.  Every so often, life brings with it those trying days when mere survival takes all your energy.

Those days come and go.  Your life is not a string of those events one after another.  Most of the time you put forth a lot of energy to make yourself a better person today, than you were yesterday.

Antonio, a sculptor, chipped away at a stone and could do nothing with it.  So, he tossed it away.  Later Michelangelo took it and carved one of the greatest statues of all times, the statue of David.  He saw the potential in the stone.  As you are surviving each day, realize that the Lord God sees potential in you, that you do not begin to see for yourself.  He has great things in store for your life, regardless of your present situation.

Talking to Christians, the Word of God states that He has mighty things in store for you (so be encouraged): “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus” (Phil. 1:6).  God began molding you into His image the day you became a Christian— “He who began a good work in you.”  He continues doing that day in and day out until He returns— “until the day of Christ Jesus.”  It is interesting, though, that what God is doing the whole time you are a Christian is to mold you into the exact person he wants you to be— “will perfect it.”  Thus, it does not matter your spiritual condition right now; God is using you to become just the person He wants you to be.

When you view life through worldly eyes, you see life as surviving, but as you change your perspective to see life through spiritual eyes, you see the Lord empowering you to strive to that “perfect” person He wants you to be.
