Your Daily Goal

You have a daily goal.  It may not be written down, but whatever you do today and every day reflects your daily goal.  It is often those things that you accomplish, or want to accomplish, that you put as a high priority to daily doing them.
When James Calvert sailed to the Fiji Islands as a missionary, the captain of the ship said, “You shouldn’t do this.  You and those with you will be killed.”  Calvert replied, “We died before we came.”  Wow!  That puts life on earth in its right perspective.  To live the Spirit-filled life you can only do this by living totally for the Lord Jesus and putting all your own desires secondary.

In a close discourse with His disciples, Jesus explains exactly what a person must do to be a true Christian, “And He was saying to them all, ‘If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.  For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for my sake, he is the one who will save it’” (Luke 9:23-24).  Notice, the first requirement of a Christian: “he must deny himself.”  This is so contrary to the society in which you live; it says that you should get all the joy and happiness now.  Jesus sheds a different light and says you should forget about what you want and desire in life.  He says to follow His example of doing the Father’s will every moment of every day.  He even warns you that it will be difficult, “take up his cross daily.”  Ultimately, you must totally forget about what you want in life and live totally by the Word of God.

You were not created to live a life of fun and games on this earth.  You were created to live a life that brings glory to God, regardless of where that road may lead you.  Make your number one goal for every day to live it totally for the glory of God.  This is what being a Christian is all about.
