Thinking Deeply

Hopefully, you find time on a regular basis to stop and reflect on godly truths.  When you have time to ponder the deep things of God, what do you think about?  (If you do not let your mind wrestle with the deep things of God, then you need to start doing so.)  You might meditate on God’s holiness, or His grace, or His mercy, or His agape love, or His sovereignty or some other deep issue.

Daniel Webster was a Christian.  “What is the greatest thought that has ever passed through your head?”  someone asked Daniel Webster.  He answered, “My accountability to God.”  Now, that is a thought worth pondering.  After pondering that thought, you might just have to adjust your behavior.

Jesus Christ was talking to His disciples about end time events.  In that discussion, He said, “…all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life; those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment” (John 5:28-29).  After hearing this, you have to put yourself to the test.  The answer you receive will determine how you will live the rest of your life.

To determine how deep your thinking really is, you have to answer the question posed to Daniel Webster: “What is the greatest thought that has ever passed through your head?”  An honest evaluation in your answer will reveal a lot about who you really are, not the image you portray to others.

It is time to think deeply.  If you have not done that in a while, considerable soul searching for some time may be in order.  If you do this on a regular basis. You will want to pray about what you revealed about yourself.  In a fast-paced society that is centered on self, it is time to think deeply!
