A Snapshot Of A Fool

You may say that you have met a few fools in your life.  The main problem with a fool is that he/she does not know that he/she is a fool.  One thing for sure, you cannot convince someone who is a fool that he/she is one.

C. Colton compares the wise person to the fool, when he said, “The wise man has his follies no less than the fool, but herein lies the difference—the follies of the fool are known to the world, but are hidden from himself; the follies of the wise man are known to himself, but hidden from the world.” Wow!  Stop for a minute.  Research your life and the way you present yourself to others.  Are you living your life as a wise person or a fool?

The book of Proverbs speaks loud and clear about the fool.  In the very first chapter in verse 7 God makes this statement: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”  Notice, that the fool abhors “instruction.”  That means that the fool does not listen to what either others or the Word of God says.  The fool is bound and determined to live the life that he/she desires, no matter what.

To get on the right track and leave behind being a fool, one must “fear the Lord.”  This means that you must reverence the Lord God.  Unfortunately, that description is the only way that most believers interpret to fear the Lord.  That definition is correct, but means more than that.  One characteristic, seen especially in the Old Testament, of fearing the Lord is to actually be afraid of the consequences of your sin.  To fear the Lord so that you are afraid of what the Lord may do to you, because of your sin, most Christians do not have.  The Lord God is a loving God, but is also a just God who makes you accountable for your actions.

Make it a person goal in 2019 to read the book of Proverbs through in one month, while reading one chapter a day, and write down what it says about the fool.  This snapshot will make you wise in dealing with fools.
