When you want to know something about a subject, you do some research. You read everything you can get your hands on about that topic. The deeper you dig into the information you desire, the more knowledge you have about that area of interest.
When you want to grow in the knowledge of the Bible, or knowing God more intimately, or digging deeper into some spiritual topic, the place you turn is the Word of God. Within it you will find what the Divine Author of the Book reveals about that subject. Martin Luther was a deep theologian and his source of knowledge is best seen by this quote: “For several years I have read the Bible through twice in twelve months. It is a great and powerful tree, each word of which is a mighty branch. Each of these branches I have shaken, so desirous was I to know what each one bore and what it would give me. And the shaking of them has never disappointed me.” Luther found the answers to the questions he had from the Scriptures.
The command of the Holy Bible to grow in the knowledge of Holy Scriptures is shown in 2 Peter 3:18, “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” Thus, you are to “grow in the grace and knowledge” of Christ. This can only happen when you saturate yourself in the Book of books.
At the beginning of this 2019 year, make a concerted decision to get to know Jesus Christ on a deeper level than ever before. Martin Luther wanted to do that, so he decided to read the Bible through twice in a year. No matter what time commitment you have, you can read the Scriptures more this year than in years past.
Grow in a deeper knowledge of the Lord than ever before by spending more time in the Holy Bible. You will be glad you did!
