The Significance Of Christmas

Christmas Day is right around the corner.  You will spend time with loved ones and exchange gifts.  It is a delightful time full of laughter and plenty of good food.  You do this to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.  Everything you do on Christmas Day celebrates Jesus’ birthday: the gifts, reading of the Christmas story, the outpouring of love to those less fortunate, etc.

You may read the verses in the Bible that explain the details of Christ’s birth.  The whole story is summed up in John 1 as it relates to Christ the eternal Son coming down from heaven to be born a human being—“And the Word became flesh” (v. 14).  Yes, the God of eternity past became a man of flesh and blood.

What difference does it make in the life of a person?  Nothing if he/she does not accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.  Once you decide to become a Christian, you have to determine if you are living a life well-pleasing to the Lord.  One way you can determine this is if others around you see a changed life.  A mother was telling a little boy what manner of person a Christian should be.  When the lesson was finished, the mother got a stab she never forgot, when her boy asked seriously, “Mother have I ever seen a Christian?”  Ouch!  Before you point your finger at her and cluck your tongue, take a step back and ask yourself if you act like a Christian.

Yep, in just a few days Christmas Day will be here.  There is no other time of the year like it.  You celebrate the birth of the King of kings and Lord of Lords.  You celebrate His birth, because without Him coming to earth you would not have a Savior.  The question is: now that you are a Christian, can those that see you on a regular basis see any difference in your words and actions from unbelievers?

The significance of Christmas only appears when it shines in the lives of believers.  Be significant.  Let your light shine!
