Most young people have dreams of what they want to do with their life. If you are not careful, as you get older you put those dreams aside and just grind out each day. To get the most out of every day, you need to have something to look forward to or have some purpose in your life. Like Yogi Berra said, “If you don’t know where you are going, you might end up someplace else.” Ha! Ha! This humorous statement is extremely profound. Call it goals, or life purpose or whatever you want to call it, but knowing and pursuing some direction in your life is vitally important to a fulfilled life.
Almost everyone who has succeeded in life had a goal that possessed them to obtain. When David Livingston was finishing his work in Africa, someone asked, “Now what will you do?” He said, “I will go anywhere as long as it is forward.” You should seek the Lord to let Him direct the details of your life, but also be looking for something positive to do. Complacency will set in like concrete if you are not careful. Always be moving forward for the Lord, letting Him open doors for you in His timing.
Scripture helps give you the motivation you need to keep seeking those goals. “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win” (1 Cor. 9:24). Keep your goal always in sight and pursue it with everything that you have. Without shooting toward a goal, your life will be just moving in one direction and then another direction without ever doing anything significant.
To get where you want to go requires you to know what you want to do and then seek it. The Lord will direct your path.
