When you were a child who was your hero? Maybe it was a television personality, or movie star, or music icon, or maybe it was a relative. No matter who it was, you looked up to that person and said to yourself that one day you wanted to be just like him or her. In your world, as a child, you idolized that person.
That is okay and even healthy for a child, but not for an adult. Now that you are grown who is the person who has the most influence in your life? If it is still the person you idolized as a child, then something is wrong. When you became a Christian your whole reason for existence should have taken on a brand new perspective.
Now that you are a Christian, think seriously and deeply about the place that Jesus Christ has in your life. At the end of each year a pastor asked his congregation, “Beloved, as we come to the end of another year, have we become more like Jesus Christ?” That is a good question to ask yourself, not only at the end of the year, but several times throughout the year.
Jesus must be the person you want to emulate more than any other person in your life. Not only is it a good idea, but also it is biblical. Jesus just gets through washing the disciples feet and then tells them, “For I gave you an example for you also should do as I did to you” (John 13:15). Yes, Jesus is telling them and you, also that He is to be the example you need to follow in your daily life.
When Jesus Christ becomes the one you emulate in your daily life, it changes the way you treat other people, the way you view events that happen in your life, and in short it changes your view of life itself on this earth.
Let Jesus Christ be the one you emulate! Start today.
