There are many times in your life, when you are in need of assistance. It starts right after birth. There, the main assistance comes from your mother. In school, teachers teach you and you learn from them, sometimes with the aid of a tutor. After you get out of school, you depend upon your spouse and others to meet mental and social needs. The fact is, you need help in one form or another your entire existence here on planet earth.
Not only do you need help your entire life, but for most of your life, you have the responsibility of helping others. Yes, you need to put the shoe on the other foot and help others, as well as being helped yourself. Others need you! Your aid to others often times can make a huge difference in their lives. Reynolds Price has an interesting thought in this regard, “It is a pleasant thought when you help a fellow up a steep hill, you get nearer to the top yourself.” In assisting others, most of the time you are the one who benefits the most out of helping them.
There are numerous verses in the Bible talking about how God is your Helper. One encouraging verse is in Heb. 13:6, “so that we confidently say, ‘The Lord is my Helper, I will not be afraid. What shall man do to me?’” Yes, since the Lord God is your Helper, you do not have to be afraid. Fear does not have to dominate your thoughts or your emotions. The Lord of the universe is in complete control, so take courage and realize that the Lord is there every step of the way to help you.
Next time there is a need in your life, stop and remember that the Lord is right there beside you to help you in your hour of need. The Lord is your Helper, so halt in your tracks and let Him be the Helper that He so desperately wants to be. Start today!
