That Trait You Crave For

Put on your thinking caps for a minute and let’s go back in time. Think about your parents; think when you got along best with them. What characteristic stood out head above heals with the teachers you liked most? Think about that boss you liked more than any other; what character trait stood out the most? The truth be told, this characteristic in people is probably what draws you to them closer and faster than anything else. What is it? As you probably already guessed, it is kindness.

When people are kind to you, you just want to be around them and enjoy their company. In fact, more times than not when others are kind, you don’t want to leave their company. Kindness is sort of like a magnet that draws you closer and closer to that person who has that quality.

That great reformer, John Wesley, had some fantastic advice on how to be kind. He said it this way: “Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, in all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” Now, that is some sound advice worth living.

The Holy Scriptures says much about kindness. It teaches that kindness is to be one of the traits that a Christian is known for and even includes it in the list of spiritual gifts in Galatians 5:22-23. Paul writing to the Christians in Colossae, commands all believers to use this gift: “And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience” (Col. 3:12).

Kindness is that trait that separates the Godly person from those who seek their own desires. Kind people so often look out for the needs of others before themselves. Up your kindness quota and be kind to others.

Of all the people I have met in my life and all the people I have read about, one person stands out as the most kind person for all time—Jesus Christ. Let Jesus fill you with His kindness today!!
