Putting Faith Into Action

You all know that to live the Christian life you are to live a life of faith. People often say, “I am just going to put my faith in the Lord for Him to do this.” Which usually means that person in just going to sit around and wait and do nothing. I am the guy that says for you to wait on the Lord, but I too believe that most of the time you are to be doing something during the waiting period. God does not want you to just sit around and do nothing. If nothing else, He expects you to pray, pray, pray, and to seek the Lord’s guidance through concentrated Bible study. Nowhere in Scripture do I see that acting on faith means just sitting around and doing nothing while you wait on God to answer your request.

I have a plaque in my study to remind me to act on my faith. It reads: “Faith is daring the soul to go beyond what the eye can see.” You look at your life as it is right now, instead of trying to see the broader picture of what God may be doing in your life to conform you to His image. God knows what He is about and is working in your life for the future not this instant in time. Like my plaque says, you have to look beyond what your eye presently sees. This is done by using the faith in the Lord Jesus in your life to push you beyond the present situation.

Paul had every reason in the world to focus on problems in this life. He knew what it was like to be hungry, ship wrecked, beaten for his faith, misunderstood to name a few of the things he dealt with. Look at his focus knowing his disappointments: “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:14). His purpose in life was to continue both day in and day out to “press on toward the goal.” Never give up! Keep pressing toward your goal.

So, to put your faith into action, keep pressing on toward your goal. Never, ever give up!! Remember, it is not what you can see that counts but what you are willing to dare your soul to do.
