You try to eat healthy foods. You are conscious of the kind of food you eat. Or you should be. Neglect eating healthy food will eventually catch up with you. Too many chips, cookies, cakes, ice cream, and processed food all contribute to an unhealthy body. You make those choices every day of your life. I know too many people in their late 70s that are in bad health because of bad food choices made earlier in their life.
What is true of the physical body is true of the spiritual body, as well. Feed that spiritual nature of yours on junk and it will not be healthy either. C. S. Lewis wrote many books challenging Christians in their Christian life. On this topic of having a healthy spiritual nature, he wrote: “Spiritual nature, like bodily nature, will be served; deny it food and it will gobble poison.” That spiritual poison you partake is all too often innocent. Without knowing it you are consuming spiritual junk food. It may start out with one look at someone of the opposite sex. It is not the look, but the stare that becomes damaging. Be careful. It is not those dreaded sins that suddenly come upon you. It is those little sins that gradually eat away more and more of your spiritual nature. The more you feed on them the deadlier they become.
Scripture has a remedy. “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen” (2 Peter 3:18; NASV). To grow in your spiritual nature, you need to “grow in the grace and knowledge” of Christ. How you do that? By reading and studying the Holy Bible.
You need good spiritual food. Start today and daily read and study the Scriptures! Then watch growth occur!
