You know that you need help in living a good life. Life is too complicated for you to think you can do it all on your own. To find guidance in right living, you seek other sources. Those sources may be philosophers of the past, motivational books, or modern-day psychologists. As a Christian, you may even seek further biblical knowledge by reading books that are supposed to give added information to the Bible; books written centuries ago.
To gain help in living a good life, this help is based on what your foundation is based. “Disregard the study of God, and you sentence yourself to stumble and blunder through life blindfolded” (J. I. Packer). As Packer stated, God must be an essential part of your living.
Thus, you know that the Word of God is essential for right living. It is not enough just to read that Book. It is not enough to bring that Book with you to church. It is, even, not enough to memorize the contents of it. What is the value of the Scriptures, to give you the right way to live your life? Scripture explains it, plain and simple: “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves” (James 1:22; NASV). Hearing the Word of God is a good thing to do. In fact, it is a very good thing to do. But that hearing must be followed with something. Hearing, in and of itself, yields nothing. What matters is what you do, with what you hear. You must put Scripture into the way you live your life.
Right living happens when you take Scripture and put it into your daily living. Knowing the Bible is important. What is of utmost importance though, is living the truth of Scripture daily. Have right living today, and every day, by putting Scripture into daily practice!
