Hopefully you attend a church on a regular basis. I hear some of you saying that you can sit at home and hear a pastor preach on TV or on your computer. That is true. However, you cannot feel the impact of the Holy Spirit moving in the church service while seated at home. Also, the pastor equips you to do the work of ministry. You play a part in the role of ministry, while you attend a worship service. You are there to get fed the Word of Christ. You are also there to minister to other believers in the congregation. You can never underestimate what a smile or gentle word may mean to someone in attendance.
Realize that your pastor is a man of God. A true servant of Christ did not choose to be in that role. Christ called him, and Christ enabled him with the gifts he needs for the task. “God gives us the message, but He does so through a messenger who has been impacted by the truth” (Phillips Brooks). You look forward to the message given through your pastor. Know that the message he brings, is not of his own wisdom or knowledge. Your pastor studies to yield truths that will impact your life. This happens as your pastor researches Scripture to know what it says about the text. Commentaries and other Bible helps are used to gain further insight.
What exactly is the pastor to preach? Plain and simple, “but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block, and to the Greeks foolishness” (1 Corinthians 1:23; NKJV). Christ is to be magnified.
Thinking about what has been said in this blog so far, you realize the pastor needs your prayers for him to accomplish the glorification of Christ. Pray for your pastor’s message to speak to hearts, and for you to receive the message too!
